Dealing with Serious Illness in the Elderly, ideas for Companions

I found this article from the Community Hospice Care of Coastal Cities and thought they had some good ideas.   Here are some Practical suggestions they had for persons with Dementia, Alzheimer’s or other disease/illness that strike the elderly.

1) Don’t avoid me.  Be the loved friend you’ve always been

2) Touch me. A simple squeeze of my hand tells me you care.

3) Call me to tell me you’re bringing my favorite dish and when you are coming.

4) Weep with me when I weep.  Laugh with me when I laugh.

5) Take me out for a pleasure trip, but know my limitations

Love, touch, support that’s the key.
